Introduction To Our Real Money Rummy Game

A 13-Card rummy, also known as Traditional or Indian rummy is one of the most popular card games in India people of every age love to play. Rummy in real money is simply a draw & discard game that is played between 2 to 6 players using one or two standard decks of cards plus jokers.

One deck is closed ie. The players aren’t allowed to see the cards while another deck is open, created with the discarded cards by co-players, also known as the discarded pile deck. Each player is assigned 13 cards which they are required to form in valid sets or sequences to win the game.

Every card belongs to a particular suite – Hearts, Clubs, Spades & Diamonds.
Cards in each set rank from low to high – Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, and King.
The face cards ie. Ace, Jack, Queen, and King have a value of 10 points each while all other cards such as 2,3, 5, etc hold the points equal to their face value

What Is A Sequence?

A sequence in a real money rummy game is a group of three or more consecutive cards belonging to the same suit. There are two types of sequences:

Pure Sequence

A pure sequence is formed by grouping three or more consecutive cards belonging to the same suit but without using a Joker card.

For example:

A♣️ 2♣️ 3♣️ 4♣️ – All four cards have been formed consecutively from the same suit ie. Clubs
5♥ 6♥ 7♥ – It is also a pure sequence as contains four cards of the same suit ie. Hearts in consecutive order.

Note – A pure sequence can also contain a Joker card but only in its original suit & value ie. Wild Joker Cards. For example 2♥-3♥-4♥ (WJ). Here, 4♥ is used as a Wild Joker card to complete the sequence.

Impure Sequence

An impure sequence is formed by grouping three or more consecutive cards belonging to the same suit but using one or more joker cards as a replacement.

For example:

10♥-J♥-PJ-K♥ – Here a Printed Joker (PJ) is used as a replacement for the Queen of Hearts.
3♠-4♠-8♦ (WJ) – Here, 8♦ is a Wild Joker as a replacement for 5♠.

What Is A Set?

A set is a group of three or more cards of the same value but from different suits.

Pure Set

Set without Joker Card

2♥️ 2♠️ 2♣️ 2♦️ – A pure set by forming 2s of the different suit
7♥7♣7♦ – All three 7s are from different suits

Set With Joker Cards

4♦️ 4♣️ 4♠️ PJ – A pure set, using 4s of different suits using a Printed Joker to replace 4♥️.
6♠-6♣-K♥ (WJ) – A pure set, using K♥ as a Wild Joker Card as a replacement for 6 of any other suit ie. Diamond.

Impure/ Invalid Sets

2♦-2♠-2♦-2♣ – This is an invalid set as it contains two 2s of the same suit i.e. Diamond.
A♣-A♣-K♦ (WJ) – Invalid set as formed by using two As of Clubs

Use Of Joker In Online Rummy Cash Games

Joker cards have a vital role in winning a card game. Wise use of jokers can help you declare the game before your opponent does. It has two types:

Printed Jokers

Understand by its name, a printed joker card has a picture of a joker printed on it. It can be used as a replacement to form an impure sequence or set.

For example

A♣ K♣ PJ J♣ – Printed Joker (PJ) is used as a replacement for Queen of Clubs to make an impure sequence
A♦ PJ A♣ A♥ – Printed joker to replace Ace of Spades

Wild Joker

A wild joker is randomly selected by the players at the beginning of the game. It can be used as a replacement to form a pure sequence or set.

For example:

4♣ 5♣ 6♦ 7♣ –Here 6♦ is used as a Wild Joker card to replace 6 of Spades
4♣ 5♣ 6♣ 7♣ – Here 6♣ is a Wild Joker card but in its original value & suit.

Note- When the card is picked, other cards of the same rank will also be treated as Wild cards. For example, if 4♦ is selected as the wild joker, 4♥, 4♣ and 4♠ will also be the wild jokers.

Declaration Rules To Play Rummy Online

Valid Declaration

To make a valid declaration, it is vital to:

Make at least one pure sequence
Another sequence can be pure or impure
If two sequences are complete, sets can be formed using the rest of the cards

Invalid Declaration

If a player announces the rummy game without making at least one Pure sequence, it is an invalid sequence.

Points Calculation In A Real Cash Rummy App

Structure –

Value of face cards such as Ace, King, Queen, Jack – 10 points each.
Joker and wild cards – Zero points each
Other cards. – Equal to their face value such as 5 ♥️, 6 ♥️, 7 ♥️- (5 points, 6 points, 7 points)

Points Calculation-

No combination – Value of all cards ie. 80
Two sequences with one pure – Value of cards that aren’t formed
Invalid declaration – 80 Points
First Drop – 20 Points
Middle Drop – 40 Points
